In May 2004, the first Shitoryu Karate seminar sponsored by World
Shitoryu Karate-do Federation (WSKF) took place under the command
of Kyoshi Shoko Sato, 8th Degree WSKF Director for the Americas.
The Shitoryu seminars were held in 3 cities ; São Paulo City
and Jaboticabal (São Paulo State), Fraiburgo (Santa Catarina
State), were attended by over 150 students from Brazil, Argentina
and Paraguay. Kyoshi Shoko Sato commented:" This is a historical
event for our style, Shitoryu as we have now officially entered
the country of Brazil under WSKF. I am particularly impressed with
the level and degree of dedication of students led by Sensei Paulo
Mota and look forward to further developing Shitoryu Karate in this
vast country to make it a Shitoryu powerhouse in the near future."
As a next step, Kyoshi Sato is planning to strengthen his presence
in Brazil and start developing stronger links in the neighboring
countries such as Argentina and Paraguay. His wish is to eventually
host the first Panamerican Shitoryu Karate Championship in the southern
cone (Foz de Iguaçú : http://www.fozdoiguacu.pr.gov.br/turismo/ing/).
Lastly, he commented: "I want to thank those who made this
visit possible starting with Sensei Guido Orozco who is an old friend
of mine and respectable Karateka as well as Sensei Paulo Mota and
Aldo Spangher. With the help of these gentlemen, I look forward
to growing the Shitoryu school here and contribute to the development
of our style in the world."
Note to readers: Kyoshi Shoko Sato is one of the founders of Shitoryu
Karate in the Americas and currently provides technical support
